ABOUT US

Guitar class

Based at the heart of our community in the Whitchurch-on-Thames Village Hall, we bring people together to experience the joy of playing guitar. Our club blends the fun, social energy of playing together in a group with the focused, personal guidance you would normally get from a private lesson.

Our motto is simple: Learn, play and have fun! We truly believe that music should be enjoyed at every single stage of your journey. Whether you are picking up a guitar for the very first time, looking to jam with local friends or an advanced player taking your musical journey seriously and looking to master your instrument, you will find a supportive home here.

We meet every Wednesday during the Oxfordshire academic year, for 30-minute sessions between 4pm and 9pm. Our earlier afternoon slots are dedicated to younger children while our evening slots are reserved for adults. We cap group sizes so that every student receives the individual attention needed to get the most out of their sessions.

MEET YOUR TUTOR

Andreia is a professional musician and music tutor with over 20 years of experience. She graduated from the London College of Music in 2006 with a BMus in Popular Music Performance and has been a Whitchurch-on-Thames resident since 2016. Through her involvement in music projects such as the Oxfordshire Music School and the Berkshire Rock Project, she developed a passion for teaching people of all ages and abilities, particularly in small groups where the social aspect of playing together meets the personalised guidance of private tuition.

Her own musical journey started at 14 years old when she got her first job during the summer holidays to pay for an electric guitar that her parents couldn’t afford. As a self-taught teenager learning Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana and Metallica entirely by ear, she quickly fell in love with the guitar but was convinced it wasn’t a suitable career path. At 19 years old, she made the bold move of quitting a physics degree and moving to a new country to study electric guitar. She took on this challenge without ever having had a single formal lesson.

Because of this unique background, Andreia understands the challenges of self-taught guitarists and adult late-comers while fully appreciating how much a great lesson can speed up your progress, particularly if you’re learning your favourite songs! She also takes immense joy in providing children with a fun path to learning at a young age, giving them the early musical advantages she never had herself. For those who are academically minded, she has taught Trinity College and Rockschool grades all the way up to Grade 8, as well as mentoring students through their music degrees and helping them secure scholarships to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in the US, as well as The Guitar Institute, London College of Music, ACM and Kingston College in the UK. She is thrilled to share her lifelong knowledge and passion with our local community at the Whitchurch Guitar Club.
